Paddler jazz Royle continues to lead the way, despite finishing runner-up in the second of three mini slaloms at Stone on Sunday.
In the traditional Stafford and Stone Canoe Club (SSCC) series, event two was won by host club member Emily Woodcock.
The junior paddler, who has recently received sponsorship from Stone Pipework Services and Stone Lions, took first spot with two clear runs.
However, Royle tops the rankings going into the final event on February 21.
Despite cold temperatures and snow, 126 canoeists entered this week’s competition at Westbridge Park and fastest time of the day was again posted by Alleyne’s teacher Robin Vasey, with 77.1 seconds.
However, an even shorter and less technical course made it impossible to break the handicap. The Canadian singles dominated the podium with third spot going to Meridan CC’s Dan Robson.
