School games given big lottery funding

THE Sainsbury’s School Games in Staffordshire have been given at least £45,000 additional lottery funding.

The money from Sport England will help make the event into a real celebration of sport.

This year’s Staffs event will be held on June 28 at Keele University and Fenton Manor Sports Centre venues.

The Sainsbury’s School Games are delivered by the Youth Sport Trust and encourages increasing competitive sport in schools and offers young people more opportunities to take part.

Pupils compete in a range of

sports competitions, from class versus class to school versus school competitions

In 2012, more than 9,000 young people took part in Sainsbury’s School Games festivals across the West Midlands, inspired by an incredible year of sport, highlighted by the Olympics.

The Staffs event was made possible by the hard work of schools and volunteers from across the region.

Many teams from the Stafford and Stone School Sport Partnership region will be competing in the Staffs School Games looking to bring back success stories.
