A STAFFORD father and son have led the way in a speed hill climb race series this year.
Simon Hutchinson, aged 28, and his father Mike finished first and second respectively in the Loton Park Championship, organised by Hagley and District Light Car Club.
Both drove the family limited edition BMW 1M Coupe, with eight of 11 rounds to count towards the title.
“Loton Park is a two mile, very twisty and technical course with little margin for error.
“Point scoring is based on how much you improve on or how close you get to your personal best time,” said Mike.
“This enables a participant to use any vehicle type, be it a saloon car or a single seater, but he or she must use that car for the whole season.” Simon, pictured, who had finished sixth and third in previous such championships in his Ford Focus RS, went on to take the 2012 title with one round still remaining.
In the last round he put in a fastest and personal best time and secured the title by three points.
“It’s been a great season with the added bonus of beating my dad!” he said This was Mike’s first full year in the series, competing only in the minimum eight rounds and he did extremely well to finish second.
“It was nip and tuck throughout the year but alas I had to settle for runner-up spot,” said Mike.
