Stafford Harrier takes veteran award

A WEEK before the Stafford half marathon, no fewer than 23 members of Stafford Harriers took in a local 20-mile road race.

Running
They tackled the annual Stafford 20, over a challenging course, on what was a cold, snowy day and in some cases sheer grit and determination saw them finish.

 

On the day, overall race victory went to Andi Jones (Stockport Harriers) in 1:43.19, from Ben Gamble (Tipton) 1:47.00 and Pete Middleton (Shrewsbury AC) in 1:58.56.

Leading lady was Tracy Entwistle (Warrington RR) in 2:13.15, ahead of Sharon Johnstone (Wilmslow) 2:18.51 and third place Louise Blizzard (Belgrave H) in 2:20.33.

First home in the M60 age group was Stafford Harrier Paul Douglas in a creditable time of 2:22.13, while leading home the local club was Steve Vaughan (32nd) in 2:15.41.

There was also success for the Harriers relay ‘Jones Sandwich’ team of Ann Jones, Liz Stanyer and Tracy Jones who won the ladies relay event in a time of 2:41.00.

Other Harriers times were, Ian

Hodkinson 2:25.53, Chris Owen 2:26.53, Neil Martin 2:27.19, Adam Morris 2:28.20, John Peach 2:29.27, Martin Moore 2:44.31, Eddie Smith 2:47.35.

Mark Bentley 2:48.28, Chris Elsley 2:49.06, Steve Babb 2:50.05, Angela Brookes 2:57.58;Carmel Forrest 3:01.38, Craig Baxter 3:05.04, Karen Murray 3:05.58, Esther Batho 3:06.52, Karen Sabin 3:12.11, Michael Jones 3:21.04, Holly Wright 3:53.24.

On the same day, three Harriers tackled the annual Fradley 10k near Lichfield, over flat, country roads. Overall victory went to Tom Whitmore (Charnwood AC) in 33.02.

First home for the Harriers was Keely Gilhooley in 53.45, from Tina Darby 55.39 and Joe Atherton 56.00.

Stone Master Marathoners had several members competing in the Stafford 20 and first across the line was Tim Hulse in 2:17.55.

He was followed by Michael Downes 2:26.41, Andy Oscathorp 2:51.36, Philip Cooke 3:09.48; Hannah Beeley 3:13.03, Julie Ebrey 3:25.25, Chris Barlow 3:44.25, Joyce Edwards 3:55.10.
