STAFFORD Ladies Hockey Club thirds shrugged off the Christmas excess with an emphatic 5-0 home win against Barton seconds.

Tenacious play in midfield by Hilary Glaister and Joan Manzie set up Sam Bevington and the forward made no mistake to open the scoring.
Minutes later, Sarah Turner’s effort was parried by the keeper but fell to Bevington for an easy finish. The remainder of the first half was
a more even affair with sisters Katie and Lydia Gallagher (player of the match) commanding in defence for Stafford.
The home side soon increased their lead in the second half with Manzie’s cool finish, lifting the ball over the keeper and into the net.
Youngster Mary Wolfe created the next goal with tricky play down the right and a pinpoint cross for Berni Bendall to slam home.
Stafford had Barton under the cosh with a series of short corners and rounded off the scoring as Bevington completed her hat-trick.
