FROM start to finish this is the route you will take if you are running Sunday’s 2013 Stafford half marathon.
The field then heads down Gaolgate Street, through Market Square, before turning right in to Mill Bank and along Tenterbanks.
After a U-turn back to Bridge Street the race proceeds out of town, along Lichfield Road, Queensville island, around The Meadows (Ampleforth Drive) and up Radford Bank.
The race then heads to Milford,and then Tixall, before taking a left turn back towards Stafford and left at the traffic lights (near crematorium), right into St Thomas’ Lane, and
left on to Tixall Road.
From here the race goes right
into Wolseley Road, taking in Birkdale Road and Longhurst Drive to the Weston Road.
Here, runners turn right along Weston Road to the Staffs University island. It is then left along Beaconside as far as Sandon Road before a cross over into The Haybarn and onto the old railway track to Doxey.
Leaving the path, the route crosses Doxey Road into North Castle Street, along South Street, before dropping down onto the public path alongside the River Sow.
Passing the new children’s play area on the opposite side, the course goes under Victoria Park bridge, along Mill Walk (where good crowds gather), and back to Mill Bank.
The final stretch takes in
Greengate Street, Tipping Street, Eastgate Street and Salter Street before turning left to the finish in Market Square and a well earned drink, also a special T-shirt and a medal.
Those taking part in the one- mile town centre school and family fun run (late entries taken on the day) should note that this events starts at 10.10am, as soon as the main race has cleared the town.
