The 16-year-old Stafford Grammar School cricketer is one of the country’s hottest young prospects who jetted out to Johannesberg this week for an intensive schedule of training and matches.

The combined squad of U17s/U16s belong to the England Development Programme (EDP) which aims to nurture young players with the potential to perform at international level.

Such a trip comes one year after the Acton Trussell teenager travelled to India as part of a similar EDP venture.

A community project in a South African township is also on the agenda, where players will spend a day coaching youngsters at a cricket academy.

This season, Davis, whose first South African game is a two day match on Sunday, will turn out for his new club Denby, in the Derbyshire Premier League, after moving from Milford Hall.
