Youngest ever skipper Dan is the man for Stafford rugby firsts

STAFFORD Rugby Club has appointed its youngest ever first team captain, 20-yearold Dan Smith.

Smith, a former student at Cooper Perry, Berkswich Primary and Stafford Grammar Schools led the Castlefields side to a Staffordshire Cup first round triumph over Leek on Saturday.

The player first joined Stafford as a six-year-old and has worked his way through the junior ranks, breaking into the first team a couple of seasons ago.

Smith, who has played alongside his older brother Tom, was awarded the young player of the year award at Stafford last season.

During his time at Stafford Grammar, Dan played for the school from year seven and was captain of theteam from year nine onwards.

He went on to skipper the Grammar school 1st XV in the sixth form Two years ago he was selected for the Staffs under- 20 team and played senior county rugby earlier this year.

Dan is currently studying business at the University of Manchester and is just about to begin is final year.

œ On the Stafford junior rugby front, new players are required for the colts team (16-17 years) and girlsf under-15s.

However, new players are welcome in all age groups, from six upwards, including beginners.
