ENTRIES are starting to build up for the 2012 Sport Stafford Borough )SSB) sports awards.

The area’s major sporting occasion is now in its 14th year and is sponsored by the Staffordshire Newsletter.

The competition, promoted by SSB and Stafford Borough Council’s leisure department, will again comprise ten individual and team awards.

Highlight of the awards evening, to be held in March, is the overall Clare Skelton Sports Person of the Year award, the first recipient of which was Brocton FC’s long-serving secretary Terry Homer, earlier this year.

As in recent years there are separate male and female trophies for the Sports Performer of the Year and Under-18 Sports Performer. There is also an award for the Most Improved Sports Performer.

There are team awards for senior and juniors, along with a Coach of the Year trophy, but you must be a qualified coach.

The final two awards are Special Contribution to Sport and Sports Performance of the Year (with disabilities).

Full details of the different awards can be seen online at www.staffordbc.gov.uk/sports-awards.

You can also enter online, or fill in an entry form, obtainable from the Newsletter reception in Stafford.

As in previous years the competition gives sporting stars of all ages a chance to be honoured with a SSB trophy for their achievements in 2012.

The organising committee comprises members of SSB, SBC leisure and the Newsletter and, after the closing date in December, a special subcommittee will select the eventual winners.

All we ask is that you complete an entry form and, on a separate piece of paper, provide 200 (minimum) to 300 words on the nominee and list in chronological order his or her main competition successes in 2012.

As for Coach of the Year, list the responsibilities the nominee, who must be qualified, has with his or her organisation and what part the person has played in bringing success, or contributed to the development of performers, this year.

Entry forms, which carry a full description of the separate award requirements, are also available at Stafford Leisure Centre, Stafford Tourist Information (Gatehouse), Alleyne’s Sports Centre, Westbridge Park Sports Centre (both Stone), Civic Centre, Stafford and Stone Town Council.

The closing date for nominations is Friday, December 7.
