THREE men - one armed with a hammer - burst into a Penkridge shop, locking staff in a store room before stealing a large amount of cigarettes.
The incident, at the Wolverhampton Road Co Op, happened at around 5.30am this morning.
A spokesman Staffordshire Police s confirmed a member of staff, a man in his 20s suffered a minor facial injury when he fell over during the robbery and was treated at the scene by paramedics.
“The offenders are described as white, 5ft 6 to 5ft 8ins and were believed to be in their mid 30s,” she said. “They wore dark clothing and had their face covered.
“One of them carried a hammer.”
She said an investigation was underway with inquiries being carried out at the scene including a forensic examination and high visibility patrols of the area.
“As part of their inquiries detectives are examining the possibility this incident is linked to other similar crimes in South Staffordshire and the West Midlands region,” she said.
