THE weather’s taken a turn for the better which means just one thing – it’s time for the Great British motorist to take his or her top off!
Because despite Britain experiencing the wettest winter since records began, the ideal time for open-top driving is, apparently, just around the corner.
In 2012, more than 55,000 new convertibles were sold in the UK. And according to statistics from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) soft-tops - which shouldn't make sense in a country with so much rainfall - regularly account for between two and five per cent of all new car registrations.
Meanwhile car specialist Auto Trader says that the UK is still the second largest convertible market in Europe. In a survey, it found that 95 per cent of convertible owners are planning to buy another and a further 65 per cent are already on at least their second convertible motor.
And the main reason for the purchase, according to soft-top owners, was to have the roof down on sunny days – with 77 per cent citing it as the reason for owning one.
So with spring in the air, leading motor business Stafford Audi is inviting customers to a specially focused cabriolet event, showcasing the joys of open top driving.
Phil Drury, Head of Business at Stafford Audi, said: “We’d like to invite customers to our Open Season event, which begins on March 15.
“At Audi, we know it’s important to be early to ensure you get the best spot. It’s why we’re holding our Open Season event in March, so customers can take advantage of some competitive offers in plenty of time for the summer. Just contact us or visit our centre before March 24th when Open Season comes to a close.”
According to the Met Office, 2013 saw the warmest and sunniest summer in the UK since 2006 with July a particularly sunny month.
Phil added: “Let’s hope that following the wettest winter since records began we are in for a hot and sunny summer, giving our customers the chance to take their tops off and hit the open road.”
