A STAFFORD teenager who is passionate about politics has become the youngest member of the Labour party in the town – and now hopes to become a councillor.
John Turner, 14, a student at Blessed William Howard School, is a secondary carer in a disabled family and regularly takes part in marches to campaign about various issues, including the bedroom tax and NHS cuts.
He has already met Labour leader Ed Milliband at a question and answer session in Birmingham and shadow health secretary Andy Burnham at a Save Stafford Hospital meeting.
And he has also produced a number of video clips for Twitter which have received praise from several labour MPs.
He says: “I am hoping to become the youngest Labour councillor for Stafford where I can use my voice to support the people.”
Headteacher Phil Smith said John as a great example to his peers and Stafford’s Labour Party candidate Kate Godfrey added: “We are delighted to have John working so actively in the Labour party. We are looking forward to offering him work experience whenever he is ready and offer our full support in any way we can with the issues he is so passionate about.”
