HAVING opened their league season with a victory, Stafford HC (men) firsts drew 2- 2 in a friendly with Edgbaston seconds this week.
Stafford opened superbly with a goal from Dan Rennie in the opening minute. The effort from created by a run and pass from Andy Peatfield, with Rennie netting at the near post.
Edgbaston hit back and created several decent chances, but Stafford’s wing backs, Richard Buka and Mike Wattley were on hand to break down the play.
Stafford then scored a second goal. This time, Rennie was the provider, creating the opportunity for Peatfield to score.
Edgbaston pulled a goal back after some smart approach play, their forward having made his way into the circle before laying the ball off to the far post for a colleague to score.
The second half could have gone either way, with opportunities at both ends. Rennie could well have had a hat-trick, including one effort he missed from just a yard out!
One Edgbaston effort deflected off the head of Stafford keeper Brad Evans and onto the bar, before the Birmingham based side equalised.
Stafford were guilty of standing still when expecting a decision to be given and the Edgbaston forward took his chance and blasted home.
It is back to West Midlands One action for Stafford this Saturday and they will certainly have to be more clinical when visiting Bromgrove, 12.15pm start at Bromsgrove school. Bromsgrove have opened with a win and a loss.
