A PENKRIDGE couple say Stafford Hospital saved their baby daughter’s life and they are horrified maternity services are being downgraded – or could disappear altogether.

Emma and Ryan Smyth, both 28, of Vale Gardens, welcomed baby daughter Rose into the world in January.

But Mrs Smyth says although her pregnancy was low-risk she suffered complications during the birth - and within minutes specialists filled the room and she was rushed for an emergency caesarian section.

Thankfully Rose arrived safe and well and weighed in at a healthy 8lbs 2oz.

Mrs Smyth added: “We cannot thank Stafford Hospital enough for the fantastic care given to us. To lose maternity services would be disastrous.

“The decision to downgrade it is ridiculous. We would have been rushed up to Stoke and I dread to think what would have happened.”
