STAFFORD Hospital campaigners have accused the Trust Special Administrators of trying to “muzzle” them with by banning the press from the protest camp.
The TSA emailed media outlets yesterday, Wednesday, “reminding” them of its policy of “no media access to the estate of Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust, which includes the grounds of Stafford and Cannock Chase hospitals.”
Support Stafford Hospital campaigner and borough councillor Chris Baron said the ownership of the land the protesters were camping on was unclear.
And she added: “This seems to me like an attempt to stifle our protest and prevent it being reported - but we are not going away.
“This is a peaceful, quiet and tidy camp supporting vital local services and we will not be intimidated.”
And fellow camper Kate Godfrey, Labour parliamentary candidate for Stafford, said “I am really shocked.
“There has been a huge increase in citizen journalism around Stafford Hospital, with people blogging, posting on Facebook and tweeting from the camp. We have been trending on Twitter all week, and if the TSA think that is going to stop just because they are banning the official media they are very much mistaken.”
