STAFFORD Rangers are still awaiting a call from league officials as to a new date for the Evo Stik Premier fixture at Grantham Town.
The original date on Saturday saw the match abandoned due to severe weather conditions, thunder, lightening, rain and a hail storm in the Lincolnshire area.
Rangers secretary Mike Hughes explained: “At 2.30pm (half an hour before kick-off) the match was perfectly playable and everyone was looking forward to the match.
“Around ten minutes later the sky went dark and the wind got up. Ten minutes from the 3pm kick off it started to rain. As the teams emerged for the match it started thundering and lightening and there was a heavy storm, including hail.
“The match kicked off in such conditions, but the referee decided to take the teams off after just 85 seconds. We waited about 15 minutes for it to blow over and the teams re-appeared, but there were pools of water all over the pitch.
“It was still raining and the referee came over to both benches and after about five more minutes he took the players off again and the match was abandoned.”
Hughes said the Grantham fixture would probably be re-arranged for later next month. This Saturday, Rangers entertain fellow strugglers Frickley Athletic at Marston Road (3pm).
