STAFFORD Rangers’ long serving director Roly Tonge resigned today after nearly 33 years with the Marston Road club.

Tonge, who celebrates his 90th birthday next month, is the owner of Hixon Airfield Services.

Over the years he has ploughed a considerable amount of money into the club and fellow director and club secretary Mike Hughes said: “We are very grateful for his generosity of the years and certainly his great support for the club.

“We fully understand his decision. He has been a consistent and committed member of the board, people you need when running a football club.”

In a letter to the club, Tonge said he felt it was time for younger people to get involved with Stafford Rangers and he wished the club all the very best in the future.

Tonge’s decision leaves the Marston Road club with three board members, Hughes, Cliff Went and Reg Bates.

The close season has seen them joined by five non-executive board members, former directors David Montgomery, Jon Downing, Nick Oldfield, Carol Bailey and John Macmillan, while representing Stafford Rangers Independent Supporters Trust (Stripes) is Phil Bennett.
