STAFFORD Rangers and Chasetown must do it it all again on Tuesday at Marston Road as the FA Cup First Qualifying tie ended in stalemate.
Rangers made two changes from the side that picked up their first point of the season against Marine.
Chris Flynn replaced the cup-tied Martyn Jackson and Jermaine Johnson came in for the injured Fabrice Kasiama.
It took fifteen minutes for the game to awaken when James McCarthy controlled Michael Carr’s through ball and forced a save out of Danny Watson.
Sean Kinsella was off target with two efforts before the home side began making inroads.
Former Rangers striker Nick Wellecomme missed a decent chance shooting into the feet of Jon Brain and from the corner taken by Simon Brown, Tesfa Robinson headed wide.
Rangers were thankful to skipper Darren Bullock minutes later heading an Avun Jephcott header off the line.
Danny Smith shot wide with an audacious overhead effort as Chasetown continued to threaten but it was Rangers who almost broke the deadlock in first half stoppage time, McCarthy jinked one way and another before unleashing a left-footed drive which cannoned off the crossbar.
Chasetown had chances just after the break but both Jephcott and Smith failed to test Brain.
Oliver Davies was finding more space in the second half and an inch perfect cross was headed over by McCarthy.
It was McCarthy again in the thick of the action as he got on the end of another cross, this time from Carr, but it was directed straight at Watson.
Rangers were a far more potent outfit after the break and a surging run from Davies ended with McCarthy’s cross being punched clear by Watson.
Davies was again the provider with 15 minutes left but Danny Quinn could not hit the target with the header.
Rangers went close to winning the tie three minutes from time when Alex Steadman hit the inside of the post from 25 yards and then deep into time added on, Marco Adaggio volleyed over for the hosts however the game was destined to go to a replay.
