RELEGATION may be just be around the corner for Stafford Rangers but they will head for Grantham Town this evening determined to prove a point.

While demotion from the Evo Stik Premier league was confirmed for fellow strugglers Stocksbridge Park Steels on Saturday, Rangers really need to win their remaining seven matches to have any slim chance of survival.

Rangers, who have won just one of their last five league games – at Matlock earlier this month – will hope to go one better than the early season clash at Marston Road.

That was back in late September when Rangers shared four goals with Grantham. A win tonight Rangers would certainly give them a boost ahead of Saturday’s trip to Buxton.

Last weekend, Rangers conceded their 100th league goal this season when league top scorers and second place Worksop Town ran out 2-0 victors at Stafford.

The game also saw young teenage goalkeeper Johnny Sutherland, who signed on work experience from Manchester United the previous day, make his Boro debut.

Rangers have seven matches remaining this season and after trips to Grantham and Buxton they entertain King’s Lynn (April 5) before receiving Ashton United (April 12). The last three fixtures are, Trafford (away) April 19, Nantwich Town (home) April 21 and Whitby Town (away) April 26.
