Stamford 2 Stafford Rangers 0
AFTER a welcome away win at Stocksbridge the previous week, Stafford Rangers suffered a setback in their survival hopes at Stamford on Saturday.
Boro boss Graham Heathcote gave new boy Saul Henderson, who netted on his debut at Stocksbridge, his first start for the club, while Levi Reid, who also netted in that game, was recalled to the starting line-up.
But Rangers struggled to create good chances and only the legs of visiting keeper Jon Brain thwarted Nabil Shariff and Natt Cotton, before Stamford broke through on the stroke of half-time with a header from Shawn Richards.
At the start of the second period, Jermaine Johnson twice went close for Rangers, but it was Stamford who increased the lead just gone the hour mark.
A corner from Cotton was flicked on by Shariff and Alvin Jarvis fired home.
Jarvis then cleared off the line to thwart Alex Curtis, while Reid also drove just over, but Rangers were unable to find the target.
Next up for Rangers is another vital home clash against the team just one place above them, Witton Albion, on Saturday (3pm).
Witton currently have an 11 point advantage over Rangers and also have three matches in hand.
