Stafford Town 0 Littleton 1

AFTER the previous Saturday’s heroics against Bromsgrove in the cup semi-final the league game against Littleton was a great disappointment.

The Reds, without the injured Morgan Hurley, rarely looked like scoring and slumped to their third home defeat of the season.

With the strong wind behind them visitors started brightly and put Town under pressure. In the seventh minute Luke Rowlands got through on goal but shot straight at home keeper Richard Stone. Rowlands went on to miss several chances during the game.

After 13 minutes Town created their first chance but George Burslem’s shot was deflected onto the bar. In the 27th minute, following a corner, James Price shot just over.

Stuart Hall shot over the bar for the visitors in the 33rd minute and five minutes later Littleton had the ball in Town’s goal but the referee’s assistant ruled the goal out for offside.

Five minutes into the second half Jamie Insell shot over an open goal as the visitors continued to look dangerous.

For Town, Darryll Johns got clear of the visitors defence after 60 minutes but his shot was saved by Haydon Whitcombe.

The only goal of the game came in the 68th minute when top scorer Insell beat Stone to a through ball and touched the ball into the net, getting injured in the process.

Town rarely looked like saving a point although Alex Barnfather shot just over the bar in the 75th minute and six minutes later his header from a corner was saved by Whitcombe.

On Saturday, Town travel to Southam United in a league fixture (3pm).
