STAFFORD Town got their league campaign back on track after two defeats with a 2-0 home victory against Pilkington XXX.
in a Midland Combination league match which involved very few chances for either side,
After 12 minutes a Town free kick was well saved by Reece Francis and three minutes before half-time Morgan Hurley latched onto a poor back pass but put his shot wide of the goal.
Once the second half got underway the game continued to be scrappy with the visitors gaining more possession and creating a couple of chances, Barry Weston pulled off a fine save to keep his goal intact.
The breakthrough came after 73 minutes when a pass from Jake Turner found George Burslem who held off the defender before smashing the ball past Francis for his first goal for Town.
Now the home side’s confidence had grown and a long ball from Mat Dockerty fell into the path of Morgan Hurley who lifted his shot over Francis to make it 2-0 and clinch the three points for the home side.
A hard fought win and a much needed three points which takes them up to tenth in the league.
