A STAFFORD chip shop owner is taking the plunge for charity by skydiving from 15,000 feet to raise money for Diabetes UK.

Demetrios Nicolaou, aged 31, the owner of the Sandon Road Fish Bar, decided to raise funds after his four-year-old son Nicolas was diagnosed with type one diabetes last year. He will jump along with his brother Ban Nicolaou and cousin Amy Sakkas from Hinton-in-the-Hedges airfield in Brackley on June 14.

He said: "It's for my son that I'm prepared to leap out of a plane thousands of feet in the air.

"I want to raise as much money as I can so that maybe one day we can stop injecting him and using his fingers as pin cushions."
