Stafford family's ticket to the magic kingdom

A STAFFORD family has taken a step closer to being named the world’s first Walt Disney World Family.

The Bushells, of Virginia Avenue, beat 600 other entries from around the country in the inaugural competition to find the face of the popular Florida holiday destination and will now battle it out with four other UK families to be known as the first family of the “magic kingdom”.

Martin Bushell, 35, who entered his family group - Karen Bushell 46, Lucy Bushell, 12, Katie Burford, 21, and Tony Fairhurst, 25, - said: “I can’t explain how we felt when we found out that we had made the final. We are all so excited and proud to have made it this far.

“Sharing experiences as a family is what going on holiday is all about and it’s exactly why we love Walt Disney World so much. It truly is a magical place and we hope that on our next visit we will be representing the UK as the world’s first ever Walt Disney World Family,” he said.

The hunt to find a family was launched after research revealed a new wave of “togetherness” among British families in 2012, with a third of Brits now holidaying with five or more people and with several generations of the family.

Managing director of Disney Destinations International, Hugh Wood said: “The judging process was tough.

“There really are some fantastically unique families here in the UK and we were really impressed with the creativity people showed,” he said. “The Bushells stood out with their imaginative entry, full of rhymes and riddles explaining their special family dynamic and how Walt Disney World has come to have such a special place in their family life.”

Along with being awarded the title of the world’s first Walt Disney World Family, the winners will visit Walt Disney World Resort in Florida for a VIP stay and have their name commemorated on the resort for a year as well as featuring in a new marketing campaign.
