MORE THAN 30 affordable homes are being earmarked for a Stafford garage site.
The land at Exeter Street is currently owned by Stafford Borough Council and managed by Stafford and Rural Homes, which owns the surrounding blocks of flats.
The garage site could make £150,000 if it was sold on the open market, a report said.
But instead the council is transferring the land to SARH at no cost, for the development of affordable housing.
The transfer was approved by the council's cabinet on Thursday.
SARH, which made the request to the council for the land transfer, is currently in negotiations with a housing developer to build homes on land. SARH also wants to build up to two homes on the garage site itself.
The housing association has previously worked with the council and Jessup Build Develop to build 14 apartments on a site in Stone's Priory Road. More than 40 apartments are also being built in Stafford town centre's Foregate Street.
