YOUNG gymnasts from a local club have again been excelling in competition.

At the West Midlands Regional Prelims, 37 gymnasts from Stafford Gym Club, whose ages ranged from eight 8 and 19 years, competed at Wednesbury and returned home with a staggering 28 medals.

The Stafford club gymnasts put on amazing performances, some of which saw the highest scores awarded during the day.

Gold medal winners were, Caitlin Walton (grade 1 women’s pairs), Theo Hulse and Ezmee Giddens (grade 2 mixed pairs), Claudia Ballinger and Grace Miller (grade 3 women’s pairs)

All now qualify to represent the West Midlands at the National Acrobatic Finals in May.

“All the gymnasts are very excited as reaching the nationals is a huge opportunity. We are all very proud of them,” said coach Emma Hunt.

Ballinger and Miller were awarded second highest score of the day for an almost faultless routine scoring a fantastic 27.64 out of 30.00.

Picking up silver medals were Ashleigh Hopson and Ruby Owen (grade 1 women’s pairs), Ellie Moore and Evie Lockley (grade 2 women’s pairs)

Cara Hawkins and Freya Johnson (grade 4 women’s pairs), Beth Giles and Rebecca Shenton (grade 5 women’s pairs)

Hannah Nobes, Thando Hart and Mia Appleton (grade 3 women’s groups), Ellie Greensmith, Emily Acton and Lucy Wheeler (grade 4 women’s groups).

Kerewin Lee-Gorton, Nicola Blagg and Amy Grace (grade 6 women’s groups)

Bronze medal winners on the day were, Anna Lee-Gorton, Sarah Nolan and Amelia Buffey (grade 4 women’s pairs), Abbie Meddings and Leticia McCready (grade 5 women’s pairs)

Just missing out on medals in fourth place were Olivia Norman and Josie Oliver (grade 3 women’s pairs), Sophie Nobes, Ella Storr and Emily Hanson (grade 3 women’s groups) and Laura Page and Hollie Kirkbride (grade 5 women’s pairs).

Finally, in eighth position, still with an impressive 24.71 out of 30.00, were Jessica Warren and Lucy Cawdell (grade 2 women’s pairs) who competed as a pair for the first time.

“All coaches at the club would like to congratulate all gymnasts and thank parents for their continued support,” said Hunt.
