THE NUMBER of Stafford jobless has fallen by more than a third in a year, new figures reveal. There were 863 unemployment claimants in the constituency in May – down from 1,339 at the same time last year. It also represents a 5.8 per cent drop from April when there were 917 claimants. The news has been welcomed by Stafford MP Jeremy Lefroy who said: “Today’s figures are excellent news. We have now enjoyed a number of months of dropping unemployment, which bears out what I am being told by local businesses, which is that they are looking to expand and take on more employees. Also, the drop of 476 over 12 months, shows that the local economy is gaining confidence. “ Mr Lefroy, Stafford College and Stafford Works will hold a careers and jobs fair at the college on Monday, June 30, from 10am to 3pm.
