Stafford police appeal for witnesses after town centre incident leaves man with facial injuries

STAFFORD police are appealing for witnesses after a man was left with serious facial injuries after an alleged assault near the town centre in the early hours of this morning.

Police were called out at 4am this morning, Tuesday June 24, to the riverside footpath between the Stafford Borough Council offices and the Asda supermarket after reports that a man had been found injured on the section of path running under the Queensway road.

A spokeswoman said the man was taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire with facial injuries, but his injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

Three men were arrested at the scene in connection with the incident. Police say they are two 22-year-old men from Stafford and a 21-year-old man from Rugeley.

Detectives and a scenes of crime investigator were at the scene today. The path was cordoned off and guarded by police community support officers.

Police are asking anyone with any information to contact them on 101, quoting incident 72 of June 24. Witnesses can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
