STAFFORD rally driver Julian Jones came out on top in a fierce battle with Cannock rivals on Saturday.

With Mikey Herritts co-driving, Jones impressed with a stunning performance to win the Cetus Stages rally at the Three Sisters Race Track near Wigan.

Pushing him all the way was the Cannock pairing Ron Aiken and Brian Kneale in their MG Metro 6R4.

Jones, pictured above in his Escort, was involved in an epic race with the pair.

“Throughout the rally there was never more than a second between us until stage nine when they had to ‘kick back’ due to a loose driveshaft,” he said.

Also taking part in the race was Stone driver, Rob Hughes in his RWD Focus.

Rob, who is part of the family’s Crown Street Garage business, is in his second season running the Focus.

After a series of unfortunate setbacks, including fuel problems, he finished seventh and second in class.
