DESPITE the imminent arrival of Hurricane Bertha, which scared off a couple of teams, the first Stafford Rounders Festival got off to a solid start at the weekend.
The tournament, hosted by the Stafford Rounders Club, attracted six teams from across the region, competing for the festival trophy.
The event, which took place on Sunday at Stafford Grammar School, was organised by Laura Colclough, the founder of the Stafford club.
“I was delighted with the enthusiasm from all the players,” said Laura. “There was a fantastic atmosphere, even though we were wet through. I’ve received some great feedback from the teams and am already looking forwards to next year’s competition.”
Despite the abysmal weather, there were some exciting matches. The festival winners were Wrekin Havoc rounders team. Second place went to Old Wolves, while Stafford claimed third position.
If you would like to join Stafford Rounders Club, men and women players can turn up for the training sessions every Wednesday evening at Stafford Grammar School, between 7-8pm.
