NEARLY 600 local people, more than ever before, cycled in the sunshine in this year's Katharine House Hospice Cycling Challenge – in a record-breaking anniversary event for the hospice.

Event fundraiser James Lunney said: "The four routes proved to be very popular with 580 cyclists of all ages and experience.

"Local people pedalled on a 10-mile leisurely ride through Stafford's cycle tracks, a midi 45-mile ride, a gruelling 65 -mile route and a jubilee 25-mile route – literally a mile for every year the hospice has been providing vital free care."

Last year's cycling challenge raised over £22,000 for the hospice and organisers are hoping to raise £25,000 from the jubilee event once all the sponsorship money is received.
