HE’S at it again! The impostor claiming to be Stafford’s Mayor has taken to Youtube to assert his claims to the title.

Comedian James Billington ruffled feathers when he started tweeting as the Mayor of Stafford - particularly when he made disparaging remarks about the Mayor of Shrewsbury.

Stafford’s real mayor, Councillor Angela Loughran hit back by issuing a joking challenge to her rival for a showdown at Stafford Castle.

She described Mr Billington as a “poor imitation with a cheap looking chain” - but said he could have a spot at the Gatehouse Theatre’s comedy night if he promised to mend his ways.

Now the fake mayor has issued challenges of his own. In his Youtube video he suggests contests to see which mayor can cut the most ribbons in a minute, a race around the town centre, and a game “dodging the falling masonry” at Staffordshire Place.

The impostor admitted that no-one in the borough council believed he was mayor, but set out his mayoral credentials.

These included knowing that bin collection day in Doxey was Wednesday, and that there were no fields in Highfields.

Meanwhile it’s business as usual for real mayor Councillor Loughran.

“The real Mayor will continue with her civic duties promoting the great work of volunteers in the many charities and groups across the borough and raising thousands of pounds for her nominated charities which are the Stafford and District Bereavement and Loss Support Service, Homestart Stafford and Staffordshire Women's Aid,” a spokesman said..
