YOU can run - but you can't hide. Inconsiderate motorists flouting parking rules may think they are off the hook after 6pm because Stafford and Stone's traffic wardens have clocked off for the day.
But it turns out that the borough's parking enforcement officers work into the evenings if they are alerted to specific problems, such as vehicles causing an obstruction.
Reader Bernie Bradbury, of Rowley Bank, Stafford, wrote in to the Newsletter to query their working hours after he spotted three parking enforcement staff in Greengate Street at 7.30pm on a Tuesday evening.
Mr Bradbury said he was told they were on duty until 9pm.
But a Stafford Borough Council spokesman said staff could be called out at any time to tackle particular problem areas.
"When we have complaints from the community about a driver or drivers ignoring parking restrictions in the evenings then we look in to it, which obviously means officers will need to work later into the evening," the spokesman said.
"Of course some parking restrictions are in place 24 hours a day for very good reasons of safety."
