GETTING up close to owls was a real hoot for a group of youngsters who have been gathering facts about the birds in a wildlife project at their Stafford school.

The wow factor came to the Year One classroom at Stafford Preparatory School in the shape of five owls from the Owl Experience, based at Red Lion Farm, Haughton.

The pupils, aged between four and six, were encouraged to handle the birds and put questions to the farm's Owl Experience team.

"I liked stroking the owl. I enjoyed seeing the owls in our classroom and the barn owl, Lily, was very soft to touch. It was a fun morning," said five-year-old Esther Gibson, who lives near Church Eaton.
