A CARING Stafford student is climbing a mountain for charity – and if she raises £2,000 by the new year she will shave her hair off.

Holly Gilbert, 20, is joining a team of 25 travelling to Africa to tackle Mount Kilimanjaro in July next year.

Holly, from Hillcroft Park, is a member of the RAG (Raise and Give) society at Birmingham’s Aston University, where she is studying sociology.

She and her fellow members are raising money for the charity Childreach, which aims to improve children’s access to healthcare, education and child rights and protection.

Holly said: “I will be trekking through various terrain such as mountain forests and alpine deserts until I reach the summit.

“I have a huge sponsorship target of £2,650 but I don't want to just meet this target, I want to exceed it. So to get things rolling I am making it a bit more interesting.

“If I can raise a huge £2,000 of my target by New Years Day then I will be shaving my head on my 21st Birthday in June and filming it for everyone who has supported to see.”

Holly, a former pupil at Walton High School, will also be visiting some of the projects Childreach is involved in throughout Africa while in the continent.

She has set up a sponsorship page for people to make donations, which can be found at https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/hollygilbert2
