A group of student firefighters from Stafford schools will be presented with awards for successfully completing their course at a Celebration of Success event at Stafford Fire Station this evening, July 17.
The group of year nine students celebrating their success are from various schools in Stafford and have all gained a BSC Entry Level Award in Workplace Hazard Awareness.
They will carry out a demonstration to their family and teachers of the practical skills they have learnt during the course.
Director of Response Rob Barber will be presenting the students with their certificates at the event. The students have attended the course once a week over the last 12 weeks at Stafford Fire Station where they have learnt training and squad drills, road traffic collision extrication procedures, hose running and pumping, first aid and fire safety in the home. In addition, the students took part in various group sessions, touching on the consequences of arson, hoax calls and antisocial behaviour.
Student Firefighter Co-ordinator Ben Shipley said: “The student firefighter course has been a fantastic experience which has brought out the best in the students involved. Not only have they learnt new practical skills but they have also learnt life skills such as communication and teamwork. All students have really enjoyed their time with us on station and we are really proud of their achievements.”
