STAFFORD tennis prospect Megan Davies has won through to the next round of the country’s top competition.
The teenager progressed to the second rounde in the Under 16 Girls’ Singles event at the Nike National Junior Tennis, beating Florence Abbott 6-1, 6-0.
In the Under 18 category she is through to the third round after a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Emma Wilson at the Nottingham Tennis Centre on Monday.
The Nike Junior Tennis Championships are the highest level competition for all juniors and the pinnacle of the summer domestic calendar. The tournament features more than 250 players across four age groups and is a showcase for British tennis and the best junior talent in the country.
The competition has been running for more than a century and past winners include Andy Murray, Heather Watson, Tim Henman, Elena Baltacha, and Anne Keothavong.
Megan, who trains at the Baseline Tennis Centre, Rising Brook, will now face Serena Nash from Bradford in the second round of the 16U and Holly Hutchinson in the third round of the 18U which will take place on Tuesday.
The tournament runs until Friday and is held simultaneously at the Nottingham Tennis Centre and the West Hants Club, Bournemouth.
