STAFFORD Town moved second in the Midland Combination premier on Tuesday night after sinking visiting Nuneaton Griff 4-1.
The Reds, unbeaten in their opening three league games, raced into a 3-0 interval lead.
Steve Hopkinson opened Town's account on seven minutes, after the visitors' Alex Naughton had been denied by a post.
It was 2-0 to Town on 21 minutes when Paul McMahon found the net and the home side added a third goal through Hopkinson from a free kick.
Town struck a fourth just after the restart, before Griff pulled a goal back through Josh Ruff.
In the closing stages, Town had a chance to make it a nap hand but Mat Dockerty's penalty was saved by visiting keeper Dave Watson.
Town, who entertain Lichfield City at Evans Park on Saturday (3pm), are second in the table, three points down on fellow unbeaten Bolehall Swifts with a match in hand.
