Staffordshire leader's advice on fire strike safety

A STAFFORDSHIRE civic leader is urging residents to keep an eye on elderly or vulnerable neighbours during this week's fire strikes.
The industrial action over pensions changes  by members of the Fire Brigades Union is due to take place between August 9 and August 16 from the hours of noon to 2pm and again from 10.59pm to 11.59pm every day.
Philip Atkins, Staffordshire County Council’s leader, said it was important for everyone to take extra care at home, at work and on the roads.

He said:“The fire service has dealt well with previous days of action and it is important we still remain vigilant during this whole week of action.

“There will be significantly fewer crews and fire engines available, so it is essential to allow these crews to focus on dealing with real 999 emergencies only.

“As a county council, we have emergency plans in place and the most important thing is that we all be a little more vigilant, check on frail or elderly friends and neighbours and all keep safe."
