LIGHT-FINGERED thieves have struck at a Stone beauty spot tended by green-fingered Brownies just days after their hard work was praised by a Heart of England in Bloom judge.
Brownie leader Helen Whetnall was devastated to discover a toadstool and owl had been stolen from the Brownie garden at the top of Abbey Street.
The girls’ garden was part of the route through Stone taken by senior Heart of England in Bloom judge Roger Bache when he visited the town last Friday.
Jill Hood from Stone in Bloom said: “The Brownies were thrilled their very hard work in their garden had been judged and admired by Roger, who said it typified the community spirit of Stone residents .
“Helen watered the garden at 10.30am yesterday morning and both the clay owl and wooden toadstool were in place, but when she returned later in the afternoon to water again they had gone.
“Helen had donated the two missing items and is devastated about the theft . The Brownies will also be upset when they find out their garden is missing the owl and toadstool, which are important to the display.”
Anyone who knows the whereabouts of the missing ornaments can call District Commissioner Cathy Collier on 01785 247306.
