A STONE GP is just days away from her half-marathon debut.
Stafford’s 30th anniversary half-marathon takes place on Sunday and for Emma Beardsmore it will be a particularly momentous occasion.
Beardsmore is raising money for the charity Starlight who made her youngest daughter’s dream a reality.
Alice, now seven, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia when she was just two-years-old and had to undergo a lengthy process of treatment.
The staff at University Hospital of North Staffs thought Alice would benefit from a Starlight wish for being brave throughout her illness. Her dream was to swim with dolphins and through Starlight that’s exactly what she did as they arranged for the youngster and her family to visit Florida in February last year.
Beardsmore said: “By completing the Stafford Marathon I will be able to help this special charity grant the wishes of other very deserving children like Alice.”
This Sunday (March 16) the 30th Stafford half-marathon takes place, starting in the town centre at 10am and all the family will be there to cheer Beardsmore and the other runners on.
On the same day, many local residents will also take part in the school and family fun run around the town.
