STONE Old Alleynians suffered a 2-1 defeat to Penncroft in their first game back since December.

The weather had kept the Old Boys out of action for two months but Penncroft had managed to fit in six home fixtures in the same period.

Both teams had chances in the opening stages with Alleynians hitting a post through Luke Matthews. Penncroft were also denied by a post.

The Old Boys took the lead after 20 minutes when Dan Heard sent a looping shot over the Penncroft keeper.

Penncroft equalised just a few minutes later when the Alleynians failed to clear a corner and Jacob Craner headed home.

Alex Haynes put the hosts in front with a superb 25-yard strike just after the half-hour, before Heard was thwarted when his header was saved superbly by Kevin Warrilow.

Heard was at the heart of the action once again as he forced another stop from the Penncroft keeper and headed just over with two chances in quick succession.

Chris Heard was dismissed for a second bookable offence and Alleynians’ pursuit of an equaliser ended with his departure. Stone remain in mid-table and their next fixture is at home to table-toppers Bridgnorth on Saturday (3pm).
