SOCIAL DANCING: On Saturday in St Dominic’s Club Station Road from 8pm until 11pm. Cash bar and draw raffle tickets for sale. Admission £2.50.

STONE LIBRARY: Throughout February there is an exhibition of mixed media work by Urban Arts Centre. On Tuesday February 11, from 10am until12noon, ‘Start Something Different’ with a digital photography taster session; contact the library (01785 354135) to book a place. On Mondays during term time, Baby Bounce and Rhyme, 10.30am until 11am. There is no charge for any of these activities.

NATIONAL LIBRARIES DAY: On Saturday local author Lin Phillips will be book-signing between 1pm to 2pm. There is also story time and craft activities for children aged 3-8 years old. Contact the library to book a place.

CRAFT AND COLLECTABLES: In Stone High Street from 9am on Saturday.

STONE TOWN COUNCIL: Next council meeting, to set the year’s budget and planning, is on Thursday February 13 at 7pm. Members of the public can attend but cannot speak unless two weeks’ written notice has been given to the Town Clerk. Entrance is round the back of the offices up the stairs and the door on the right. HOUSE OF BREAD: Every Wednesday evening a group of mainly Christian volunteers offer a safe place for those in need to come together and share a cooked meal. There is also a network of support for people in need. If you wish to donate non-perishable food items you can leave them at the back of St Michael’s and St Wulfad’s Church in Stone on a Sunday morning or after the service on Thursday morning. Also needed are essential toilet items and essential items of warm clothing.

TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD: At the February 19 meeting in Bromfield Court at 2.15pm there will be a presentation about Nutrition for Over-Fifties by expert Sue Kingman. Newcomers are welcome and light refreshments are served during the afternoon. Contact Pam, 01785 812561.

ST MICHAEL’S HALL: The Trustees and Management Committee are hosting a quiz evening to raise funds for the hall. Teams of up to six people each, at a cost of £6 per person which includes light refreshments, prizes for the winners and a booby prize for the losers. CAR BOOT: Next one is at Walton Community Centre on Sunday February 16 from 8.30am until 12noon. Refreshments available. To book a stall contact Andrea, 01785 813461.

STONE HISTORICAL AND CIVIC SOCIETY: Are working on a publication to commemorate the centenary of the start of the First World War. Their aim is to write a short account of all the men from Stone who were killed during the war or shortly afterwards as a result of their injuries. ROYAL AIR FORCES ASSOCIATION: The Stone and District Branch Annual Dinner will take place at Stone Golf Club on Wednesday March 5 starting at 6.45pm. The Annual General Meeting will be on Monday March 10 at 7pm in The Pheasant, Old Road. Membership is open to all ex-RAF (including National Servicemen), WRAF, PMRAFNS and members of the public interested in supporting the aims of this, the largest single-Service organisation in the UK.
