THIS year’s X Factor winner was wowing the crowd at a Stone pub just weeks before TV stardom beckoned.
More than eight million people tuned in to see prison officer Sam Bailey crowned this year’s champion, and she is now vying for the Christmas No 1 single on Sunday.
But back in the summer she was performing at Langtry’s in Oulton Road, where locals got a taste of what was to come.
Talking to Jamie Summerfield of A Little Bit of Stone
Langtrys landlady Rita Durkin said: "We knew in August that Sam had made it through to bootcamp. She told us but we had to keep it a secret! But we had no idea she'd made it through to the live shows, so it was a lovely surprise. She's a lovely lady and we wish her all the best.
"She went down a storm at Langtrys, the locals absolutely loved her. I bet £10 that she’d make it all the way to the last three on The X Factor. But I don't think she'll be performing here again somehow."
Patricia Drabble was in Langtrys when Sam performed in August and contacted A Little Bit of Stone to describe the event.
She said: "She seemed quite shy and we thought, 'Oh dear, this won't be good'. But we stayed, she started to sing and we were blown away.
“Everyone was shocked by the power in her voice, and the notes she hit could have made the glasses on the bar smash."
Sam belted out Listen by Beyonce in her first X Factor audition and she sung this at Langtrys too.
