A YOUNG badminton player from Stone figured strongly at the National Championships in Milton Keynes.

The 12-year-old, who has represented Staffordshire at various age group levels, contested the U13 girls singles and made it through to the quarter finals before bowing out.

It was the first time she has played in this tournament as she only started competing on the national circuit in January 2013.

Abby did very well getting to the quarter finals in both the singles and the mixed.

In the singles she gave the number 3 seed, who she had never played against before, something to think about, competing well and only losing 21-18, 21-17. The girl who beat her was the eventual runner-up.

In the mixed event she had never played with her partner from Warwickshire before and they were knocked out by the eventual finalists in the quarters.

Abby currently attends Walton Priory Middle school and has played for Staffs county for the last three years.

This year she has been a regular member of Staffs U15s as well as the U13 and has even been called to play for the U17 team.
