THE younger brother of tragic Stone man Kieran "Lally" Mccoll has launched a Facebook fund-raising campaign to site a bench in his memory alongside the canal in Stone.

Lally, aged 21, used the canal towpath every day on training runs, but died after he missed his footing and fell into the water when he was returning from the funeral and wake for his pal Connan McLeod on May 8.

His 19-year-old brother Travis now aims to commemorate Lally with a bench.

“We are now attempting to raise £2,500 in order to buy a bench to put alongside the canal,” said Travis, of Thomas Avenue, Stone.

"We would appreciate any form of donation. Every little helps.”

And he told well-wishers: “Thank you so much for your support at this difficult time.”

The Facebook page was launched on Monday and has already raised over £1,500 in donations from friends of Lally, with more than 80 contributors.

Donors Malc and Chris Thorley wrote on the page: “Hope everyone gets some kind of comfort and peace knowing there is a special place to sit and think about Kieran.”
