STONE seconds emerged the victors in a relegation “six pointer” at Whitmore in the NSSCL Premier Division B.
Captain Olly Perry had the luxury of players returning from holiday to put out his strongest side and they responded with a six wicket win.
The host elected to bat first and struggled to put together a decent partnership with Alex Maginnis top scoring on 38.
Veteran leg spinner Andy Slee bamboozled the home batting with all his variety to finish with 4-23 and he was assisted by 13-year-old apprentice Harry Brundrett with 3-23.
Both freely admitted to being assisted by three outstanding catches by skipper Perry, who also chipped in with a couple of wickets, as the hosts limped to 123 all out.
In response, Dave Pashley, returning to the club of his youth and dominated the Stone reply with an undefeated half century.
He was helped by a timely return to form for James Sutton with 28 as the visitors cruised to victory on 126-4 from 36 overs
The win gave the seconds a much needed push up the table and 18 points clear of the releagation places with two matches to play.
Stone SP seconds were unable to complete a clean sweep for the Stone SP teams, losing to Hanford seconds by 82 runs in their NSSCL Div 3B clash at Swynnerton Park.
Hanford raced to 213 all out from only 43 overs, thanks to a knock of 76 by opener Peter Crutchley leaving the home side 57 overs to chase down the total.
Chris Lindop excelled with the ball taking 4-51, with Bennett supporting with 3 wickets of his own to restrict the visitors.
Unfortunately the top order couldn’t cope with the Hanford attack and it was left to captain Hylton Bennett, batting at number seven, with 32 and young No11 Rob Pochwyt with 22 to provide some respectability as they struggled to 131 all out.
