SEVERAL trees fell victim to blustery winds across Stafford Borough – including one that landed on a car.

A woman was trapped in her car at Sandon yesterday afternoon by a falling tree.

A Staffordshire Police spokeswoman said police were called at around 1.25pm to the B5066 Sandon Road, near the Dog and Doublet.

The woman, who had been driving a red Mazda, suffered cuts and bruises.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews arrived to find a person trapped in their car after a tree fall. The patient was released from the vehicle and treated for minor injuries.

“The patient was conveyed to Stafford Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”

The car was moved onto the pub car park before its recovery and Sandon Road was cleared by 2.30pm.

Another tree fell into the road at Spot Acre, near Stone, and in the Parkside area of Stafford a fir fell into a garden at Fairoak Avenue.

The Met Office issued a warning for strong winds in the West Midlands yesterday, which has since been lifted.

Local emergency services also took to Twitter yesterday to urge residents to take care while they were out and about.
