CIVIC leaders in Stafford will meet next week to discuss potential future partnerships after Staffordshire University it was closing the Stafford Campus in a move branded ‘shortsighted’ by borough council leader Mike Heenan.

Councillor Heenan said: “We believe this was very short-sighted of the University board.

“But we cannot continue to spend our energy or time moaning about a decision that has now been made.

“Now is the time to look at the great opportunities that we can pursue to further enhance the work that is already going on in our county town – the major retail investment, the success of our business and technology parks, the expansion of our MOD site when more than 1000 troops return.

“And we realise that the best way to move forward is in partnership with those who are dedicated to ensuring the future prosperity of our borough,” he said.

Councillor Heenan said he had arranged a meeting with Stafford MP Jeremy Lefroy, Staffordshire County Council leader Philip Atkins and president of Stafford Chamber of Commerce Tim Jobson to discuss future opportunities for the county town following the announcement.
