Stocksbridge Park Steels 0 Stafford Rangers 3
THREE goals in the final 16 minutes fired Stafford Rangers to a much-needed success away to fellow strugglers Stocksbridge Park Steels on Saturday.
It was in the second period that Rangers manager Graham Heathcote introduced three substitutes, latest signing Saul Henderson, Dan Cope and Stafford based midfielder Levi Reid.
And all three found the net as the Boro completed a league double over the Sheffield based side and only Rangers second away win of the season.
The victory also moves the Marston Road men up one place to 22nd in the Evo-Stik Premier the first time they have occupied this spot since October.
Rangers, who had missed a penalty on the stroke of half-time, had a player advantage in the second half after the Steels had a player sent off.
And it was in the final quarter of an hour that the visitors kept their slim hopes of survival alive with a three-goal blast.
Cope, who earned Rangers a draw at home to Blyth Spartans the previous week, pounced to give the visitors the lead on 74 minutes.
Just moments later, Cope turned provider for Reid to make it 2-0.
Then, in the dying seconds of the match, new boy Henderson added the finishing touch to open his Rangers account.
Rangers have moved within seven points of fourth bottom Witton Albion and more importantly now 11 points from safety.
It is still a big ask and next Saturday, Rangers face another away fixture at Stamford.
In the Midland Combination Premier, leaders Brocton put behind them their midweek Les James Cup defeat with a vital 2-1 home win over Pelsall Villa.
